Workshops
1) Anxious child; anxious family - Dr. Mike Davies
This workshop will explore ‘What is anxiety?’ Understanding anxiety as a process; various presentations and forms of anxiety and responding to the challenges. It will look at anxiety as a phenomenon and in particular its impact on children and their families. It seeks to understand firstly, what anxiety is? It will then help participants to understand the various forms and presentation of anxiety in childhood, that we see in practice. The potential impact on the family and the nature of the familial response to the child’s anxiety are central themes in the workshop.
2) Children and Young People with Mess Up The Mess
Young people who have received support from the Family Wellbeing Service have been supported through a creative investigation process to explore issues and themes that affect their positive wellbeing by Mess up the Mess. They are digging deep into the challenges young people are experiencing locally right now. Their co-production work is central to the conference and will include an interactive installation.
3) Development of a Joint Formulation – Family Wellbeing Service and Cardiff Parenting
The Joint formulation process through Cardiff’s Early Help enables two services to create a bespoke offer that places the family at the heart of assessment, creating a carefully formulated journey to wrap around the family. The development arose out of a difficult situation that families and services found themselves in during the Pandemic. It would have been easy to shut services off to one another in a time of crisis, but at that time both were willing to reach out and make changes to benefit Children and Young People and their families. We have learnt that work across services from different sectors is possible where there is a commitment to make it happen. We had the benefit of experienced teams who understand the needs of our localities and communities. This is a progressive way of working through some of the most challenging times. The workshop will share learning from the journey, the creative ways in which obstacles were overcome and the benefits for families.
4) Nurturing connections and building relationships through creative therapeutic play - Cardiff Family Wellbeing Service
Creative and therapeutic approaches are integral to the programmes offered at the Family Wellbeing Service. This interactive workshop will be delivered by a creative therapist and family practitioner from the team who are experienced in offering individual and family support using therapeutic models of practice. The workshop is an opportunity to explore and experience the value of creative and playful approaches to nurture connections between children, young people and their families.
5) Helping Children & Young People with Loss and Trauma-Everybody's Business? - Steve Killick
This workshop explores how loss and trauma can impact on well-being. New process orientated models of therapy explore how emotions function to help us adapt, change and cope with difficult situations. By understanding the support that specialist services can provide we may see how everyone supporting children can contribute to their well-being.
